# Images

An image embedded in the document itself, as a data URI:

![an emerald badge rendered from an embedded PNG](data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAIAAAABACAIAAABdtOgoAAAA0ElEQVR42u3bwQ2DQAwEwHvxTj/0QE8pK9UtDSBBogNDbqytYEd8OLu9Pm8pTFMBAAACAIAAACAAAAgAAAIAgPwJQBItXwqQvVH6KQD5frTfDSC/DoBWVT2GDgDpNwAq2x/ZoN2k/WENADwQIGcOgMr2BzQAAOAYwLTMj0t/gFw1AAAAAAAAAICK9jcNAPgCAAAAAAAAgEIAP+P8DQUAwIuYN2FvwgDsBWnfZpzdULuhtqMBuA9wIQPAjZgrSQACAIAAACAAAAgAAAIAgAC4e1Zbxuc3/fvlOwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==)

The same image in a table cell, next to text:

| Badge | Awarded for |
|:-----:|:------------|
| ![badge](data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAIAAAABACAIAAABdtOgoAAAA0ElEQVR42u3bwQ2DQAwEwHvxTj/0QE8pK9UtDSBBogNDbqytYEd8OLu9Pm8pTFMBAAACAIAAACAAAAgAAAIAgPwJQBItXwqQvVH6KQD5frTfDSC/DoBWVT2GDgDpNwAq2x/ZoN2k/WENADwQIGcOgMr2BzQAAOAYwLTMj0t/gFw1AAAAAAAAAICK9jcNAPgCAAAAAAAAgEIAP+P8DQUAwIuYN2FvwgDsBWnfZpzdULuhtqMBuA9wIQPAjZgrSQACAIAAACAAAAgAAAIAgAC4e1Zbxuc3/fvlOwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==) | Ten years of service |

A broken or missing image renders its alt text as a gray placeholder, so a missing file never leaves a hole:

![this alt text becomes the placeholder](no/such/file.png)

Remote `https://` images are loaded only when the document names them, only for signed-in accounts with documents left, and are never stored. JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and SVG files are accepted.
