# Markdown footnotes in PDF

Footnote references are numbered in order and collected as notes with their formatting and links. Many converters drop footnotes or print the raw markers.

[^name] references collect as numbered footnotes at the end of the document, with formatting and links inside them.

# Footnotes

Footnotes keep asides out of the flow[^first], and you can have as many as you like[^second]. The marker is a name, not a number, so you can move paragraphs around and the numbering follows[^order].

They work inside lists and tables as well:

- A list item with a source[^source]
- Another item

| Measure | Value |
|---------|------:|
| Mean annual temperature[^temp] | 14.2 °C |
| Annual rainfall | 812 mm |

[^first]: The first footnote, with **bold** and a [link](https://example.com).
[^second]: The second one.
[^order]: This note was written third in the source and is numbered third in the output.
[^source]: Measured at the coastal station, 1991 to 2020.
[^temp]: The 30-year mean of daily means, per the usual meteorological convention.
