The legivel image fetcher
You are probably here because a visitor named “legivel-fetch” appeared in your server log. This page says what it is and how to stop it.
What it is
legivel turns documents into PDF files. When a person converts a document that shows an image from your site, our server loads that one image so it can appear in their PDF.
The fetcher is not a crawler. It never follows links. It never loads a page. It loads only the images a person names in their document, and the images inside an SVG image they named. It does not build a search index and does not collect content to train AI models.
What it loads
It asks only for images, only over HTTPS, only with a plain GET request. It does not check the type of the file it gets back. It sends no cookies and no sign-in details. It follows a few redirects and then stops. Each document may load a small, fixed number of images, within a short time limit, so the load on your server stays low.
The same image may be loaded again when the document is converted again. We do not keep a copy from one document to the next.
Robots rules
The fetcher does not read your robots file. It acts for one person who asked for one image, as a browser does. If you do not want it on your site, block it as described below. We respect that at once.
What we keep
Nothing from your site. The image stays in our server's memory for that one conversion and is then discarded. We do not store the image and we do not store its address.
For each document we keep a request ID, the customer account that made the conversion, and counts and sizes. We keep this for 90 days so that we can act on a report.
How to recognize it
Every request carries this name in the User-Agent header:
legivel-fetch/1.0 (+https://legivel.com/fetcher; id=<id>)The id is different for each document. Every request also carries From: report@legivel.com.
All requests come from one host: fetch.legivel.com. We do not use proxies. A request with our name from any other address is not ours.
How to block it
Refuse the User-Agent legivel-fetch on your server. The person's PDF will then show an empty box in place of your image.
You can also write to us and we will add your domain to our block list. The fetcher then stops before it contacts your server at all.
Report a problem
Write to report@legivel.com. Please include the id from the User-Agent line in your log. With it we find the customer account behind the request and stop it if it breaks our rules. We answer within two working days.
